This is because the fish tank needs time cycle. The chemicals need time to balance. The bacteria need to be there in order to not only have healthy fish, but also maintain healthy fish. Give the cycling process a few days.
After a few days of setting up your fish tank, you can start adding fish. It is vital not to add more than 1 or 2 fish on the same day. Doing this can result in a thrown off balance in your fish tank and some of you fish may end up dead.
